3D Virtual Tour Version 0.8

Version 0.8 is ready now. This is the same as the version being presented for the capstone. I will continue to update this project until I have south church, streeter, and the library. I also plan to add more detail after the buildings are complete. I will be installing this tour on the library computers (not all but, as many as I can), so if anyone was not able to attend my capstone presentation, they will be able to view/control it themselves.

I don't have screenshots of this version. If you want to get an idea, look at the screenshots for the previous version below.

3D Virtual Tour Version 0.7

Here is another update of my virtual tour. This version has new lighting effects added to make fuller look more realistic. If you haven't downloaded anything yet, I reccommend downloading this version instead of 0.6 because of the lighting. If you've ever used sauerbraten, you know that after adding one light everything not within that light's range will become black. In this version, you will notice that several areas (like inside the buildings) are very dark. That is because I haven't added lights to the inside of the buildings yet (this will be added in next version).

FYI: Same procedure as the earlier version to install. Download the exe from the link below the pictures and run it. Extract the files wherever you want, then go to that location and run Start.bat. Sometimes the installer will look like it's locked up at around 48% complete, just be patient.

I am using this blog again to give updates of my 3D Virtual tour. It has been awhile since I've used this blog, so downloads on my other programs and stuff will probably be broken. I will reupload them when I have some free time.

Anyway, here is a look at my 3D Virtual tour using the sauerbraten game engine. I've heavily modified the game engine for this tour. Several changes to the exe's code had to be made to remove weapons from the game. Extra levels and maps were removed from the game to make the download as small as possible. This is version 0.6, so obviously it's not complete until 1.0, but you can download what I've done so far.

The download is simply an exe file. Run it and extract the files wherever you want. After the files are extracted, go to that location and run Start.bat.

Anyway, this is the older version of Patch 0 Matic. The newest version (2.0) can be downloaded below. There is a huge list of instructions for the new version. None of those apply to this one because it is older. For this version, there is not many instructions needed. The program is very simple and almost useless. I recommend that you download the newest version.

To use this, basically all you need to do is type some data (bytes) and some offsets into notepad in the following format.

This program is a scriptable file patcher. If you like making hacks/patches for programs and stuff then you should consider trying this. To use this program, you create a script in notepad (or np equivalent). Then you send the people your patch and they can apply it to the program they select. This way you don't have to send the whole modified file, you just send the patch script. The script language is very small and simple. I plan on adding more functions later. I will probably add a function to check for file version so that the appropiate patch can be automatically applied. Currently this scripting language does not contain any conditional statements. This is another thing I will add in future versions to make "smart" patch files. The script currently consists of three commands (sounds pitiful, but there is alot you can do with this). The three commands are step, length, and text. Each patch file has two sections. The first section is the offsets section and the seccond section is the data. When you create a patch file, the offsets can be set by typing them in directly or by using the step command to step through consecutive offsets. The step command is the only command you can use in the offsets section. In the data section, you can use length and text or directly type in the bytes. Length is the equivalent of step except it does not increase the value of the data byte, it just makes multiple bytes. It is obvious what text does.

Here is how to use the commands:

LBWord 2.0.2

There are two small fixes in this version of LBWord. The first fix is the print dialog. If the user opened the print dialog in the previous versions without a printer installed, the program would either have a run time error or completely crash. In this version, if there is no printer installed or if there is an error with the printer, the program will disable the print functions (print, print preview, select printer) and display the error without crashing the program. The second fix is with the exe's size. This version's exe is 332KB (unziped). The previous (2.0.1) version's exe size was 344KB. I know that is not a big change, but the size usually increases with newer versions.

LANChat 1.0

This is a program that demonstrates how to use the winsock control in vb. It uses the TCP protocol to send messages over a LAN. There are two modes: server and client. The sever gets messages from the clients and sends it to all the other clients. This program supports more than one client unlike some examples I have seen before. The server and client are both bundled into one exe. They can be accessed by passing one of two arguments to the program. You can start the program by typing LANChat -Server or LANChat -Client. Two batch files that do this for you are included in the archive.

I plan on adding many more features to this in the future. This is not the final program. I will include a screenshot with the next version when I have more time.

TestTaker 1.0

TestTaker is a program that allows you to take and create your own tests/quizes. Each test is encrypted and compressed with a password that you specify. You can create the test in a standard text editor like notepad. After you create the test, then you compress and encrypt it so that the user can't read the questions or answers directly from the test file. The encoder.bat passes arguments to the TestTaker program which interprets them and produces the test. The output test is encrypted with XOR and compressed with Huffman. It is given a tst extention. The program has two different types of questions. One of them is an option question where one answer can be selected and the other is a question with multiple answers. The process for creating, encoding, and taking a test with TestTaker is discribed below.

Format of a test(every test must use this format):

To make a test:

1) Open a text editor (notepad)
2) Type a test using the format explained above
3) Save the test with a txt extention in the TestTaker directory
4) Run the encode.bat file and follow the instructions inside
5) Once your encoded test has been created, open TestTaker
6) Select the test you made from the box
7) Enter the passcode you used to encode the test
8) Start the test

Shredder 1.0

This is a file shredding program that has many ways of overwriting. You can choose to fill the file with zeros or random bytes. It will ask you how often you want to chop (overwrite) the file. The file can be overwritten at regular positions or random ones.
